You will see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2018 tax software if, on the RC268: Contributions to a United States retirement plan – cross-border commuters page you didn’t enter any amount in the Your contributions to the retirement plan section:
You need to enter your contributions to the retirement plan, since you entered an amount in the Adjustment of your 2019 RRSP deduction limit section on the RC268 page. Enter the amount you contributed to your U.S. employer’s retirement plan in 2018 and/or the amount of your contributions that would qualify for tax relief in the U.S. [error code: 254]
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, on the RC268 page, enter amounts in the following fields of the Your contributions to the retirement plan section:
- How much did you contribute in 2018 to your U.S. employer’s retirement plan?
- If you made these contributions as a U.S. resident working in the U.S., how much of those contributions would qualify for tax relief in the U.S.?
Note: You can find the RC268 page under the PENSION PLANS AND INVESTMENTS icon on the PREPARE tab.
