You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2018 tax software if the deductible amount of support you paid was more than the total amount of support payments you reported for the year:
The deductible amount of support you paid is too high. This amount can’t be more than the total amount of support you paid in 2018. Let’s go back and correct this. [error code: 245]
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, return to the Spousal or child support – made payments page and make sure the amount you entered in the field, How much of the total amount you paid in 2018 was deductible (you can deduct it from your income)? is lower than the total amount of support you paid in 2018.
Note: You can find the Spousal or child support – made payments made page under the OTHER icon on the PREPARE tab. If you’re a Québec resident, select the Made support payments (for a spouse, former spouse, or child) page under the OTHER icon.
