You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2018 tax software if, when claiming the Solidarity tax credit, you indicated that you didn’t live in Québec on December 31, 2018:
In your claim for the solidarity tax credit, you chose a province/territory that’s not Québec for the address where you lived on December 31, 2018. If you made a mistake choosing your province, you’ll need to correct it. If you actually lived outside Québec on December 31, 2018, you won’t be able to file your Québec return online. Don’t worry, you can still file it by mail. When you get to the FILE page, you can download and print all the forms you need to mail to the government. [error code: RQ206]
How do I fix this?
To fix this error, return to Your 2018 income page and under Your claim for the Québec solidarity tax credit, select Québec as your province when entering your address in the Information about where you lived section.
Keep in mind, if you didn’t live in Québec on December 31, 2018, you won’t be able to file your Québec return online. You’ll still be able to file it by mail by downloading a mail-in version under the FILE tab.
Note: You can find the Your 2018 income page under the OPTIMIZATION icon under the WRAP-UP tab.
